Have you been to these websites? A few sales alerts just for you!!

Surgery on my leg has kept me off the computer.  I'm back now and still finding a ton of sales on the web.

First of all, have you ever tried Ebates?  The link can be found at http://www.ebates.com/index.htm.  Their motto is "Where is pays to shop online".  It gives you a rebate for shopping and also lists tons of coupons codes.  I've used them for years and found them safe to use and a great source of savings.

It seems like everyone is dumping their computer inventory.  I found some good sales at Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/PCs-Laptops/Store?nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL012513&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL012513-_-EMC-012513-Index-_-Header-tab-_-PCLaptop)  and also sales at Geeks (http://www.geeks.com/.)   Both are great sites for cell phones - it you are looking to buy one and not sell your soul to your carrier with another 2 year contract.

6 pm has sales where you save up to 70% http://www.6pm.com/

And finally, found these great Deals for Giant Eagle at my frugal adventures:

Cleveland Groupon - The Home and Garden Show

Rackmultipart20130111-22710-1atu953_grid_6

Who doesn't love the Home and Garden Show?   I love it for the freebies...and kinda don't like it so much as I realize that my house will never be a show home!  Oh well, as a great Priest once said "Tracey, no matter how many new comforter covers you buy, it still won't make you happy."  Wise man that Father Deeley was!

Anywho...Groupon.com has an awesome price for the Cleveland area Home and Garden show.  Here's the link:

How to enjoy the Superbowl without destroying your waistline

I know that the Superbowl is a couple weeks away, but still its never too early to start learning the best ways to NOT destroy your New Year's resolutions and your waistline.  I saw this article the other day and thought it was worth posting.

The article can be found at http://news.menshealth.com/alcohol-abs/2012/12/27/?cm_mmc=DailyDoseNL-_-1173804-_-01172013-_-BoozeNoBelly-dek.

The jist of it as follows:
’Tis the season to get your drink on—and to buy bigger pants. But that doesn’t have to be the case. Alcohol may be filled with empty calories, but it’s not completely off limits if you want to look great with your shirt off. We polled leading experts for their strategies to imbibe without wrecking your quest for six-pack abs.
Follow the Golden Ratio
For hard liquor, drink a 4-to-1 water-to-booze ratio, suggests Cassandra Forsythe Ph.D., R.D. For beer, 2-to-1 will do. This will keep you full and fight hangovers, making sure you don’t miss gym time the next morning.
Know What’s in Your Glass
You don’t have to count every calorie, but a ballpark estimate will keep you in check. Here’s a cheat sheet to guide your choices. Keep in mind that serving sizes vary, so adjust accordingly.
• 12 ounces beer = 153 calories
• 12 ounces light beer = 103 calories
• 5 ounces wine (red) = 125 calories
• 5 ounces wine (white) = 121 calories
• 3 ounces sake = 117 calories
• 1 1/2 ounces liquor (80 proof/40 percent alcohol) = 97 calories
Not all light beer is flavorless swill. Check out our list of the Best Low-Calorie Beers.

Strike Preemptively
Gain the upper hand before you go out. Nutritionist Alan Aragon, M.S., recommends reducing the number of meals you eat that day so your overall calorie intake is in check. If you’re going out on Friday night and usually eat four meals a day, reduce them down to one or two. (Just don’t drink on an empty stomach. Duh.)
Pre-Game
If all else fails, get a workout in the day you plan on drinking. If you chow down high-calorie foods under the influence, a workout helps improve nutrient partitioning, shuttling incoming calories towards muscle building and repair rather than fat storage, explains Forsythe.

Your flu shot....its donation time....and taxes

Hello Everyone!  Its been a while since my last post.  The holidays and my DIY kitchen remodel is playing havoc on  my "time-management" skills.

I think more of us need to realize that Do-It-Youself applies to many things in life.  We need to realize that if we want something done, then we NEED TO MAKE SURE ITS DONE AND IF NOT THEN DO IT YOURSELF.  Very simple.  Very easy to say.  It applies to so many things, but some of us tend to think that someone else will take care of it.  We need to stop that type of thinking.

I mentioned my kitchen remodel.  All of which I'm hoping to do for less than 3 grand...including the  bamboo floor.  Now its taking me a little while, but I work for free.   I sanded/primed/painted my original cabinets and "recycled" old oak ones that someone else took out of their kitchen. I am adding new doors and drawer fronts.  I read about how to tile your kitchen countertop, and my husband and I came up with a really nice design for the tile.  I shopped around and found porcelain tile for pennies of its original price [at my local Lowe's store.] I found a really nice kitchen sink that was $100 off an Home Depot, because it was a return.  I cleaned up my old kitchen faucet and it looks great.  I also did the same for my dishwasher, fridge, range-top, and oven.  I am reading up on how to install an engineered floor. I am just starting to look around for the flooring, but I am hoping that one of the local stores decides to "dump" one of their lines of engineered bamboo.  I didn't spend a lot of money.  I don't have granite.  I don't have designer appliances.  I will have a nice looking kitchen that frees up any other monies to apply towards any future family vacations.

A lot has happened in the last month. We had the terrible shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.  Now the country in being torn every which way with talks about how to prevent any future violence.  The Christmas holidays came and went.  I seemed as thought the Cleveland area experienced very mild Christmas weather.  I hope that everyone was able to spread Christmas cheer to everyone.  For my family, we stayed home and hosted part of my husband's family.  Our days were filled with eating and a few nights we enjoyed some of the holiday classics.  Of course the movie Elf was watched more than a couple of times.

I wanted to bring up flu season.  I am not sure if the flu is really that bad or if the press wants to divert our attention away from all the other bad things that are happening around the US.  That being said, please make sure you have your flu shot.  If not, you can call your local Board of Health and ask them where their flu shot clinics are in your area.  I know that our local supermarket and Walgreens offers flu shots, but often the amounts are limited.

So now it is officially mid-January.  Time to start purging your house of unwanted items.  Please donate them to the charity of your choice.  I am partial to Habitat for Humanity and charities that help out military veterans.

It should also be a time that you are starting to get all your taxes together.  Personally, I input all the data into a spreadsheet and provide that to my account.  This saves me loads of money, as the actually inputting takes me hours to do..but my labor is free!  Taxes are a scary thing.  I like my accountant, but some people choose to do their own taxes.  If not, then there are lots of free tax clinics to visit in the tri-county area.  A simple google search should bring up all the information you need.

I read somewhere that many of the stores start to really clear out their inventory starting January 16th.  As you all know, that day is tomorrow.  I'll be sure to keep close eye on most of the stores and post any great sales that I see.
